My Experiences:
I am a recent graduate from the University of Central Florida who is eager to begin a writing career. Writing became my primary focus when I was twelve, and I first began writing novellas. At sixteen, I met a friend who was interested in forum-based role-playing, wherein you write collaboratively with others to create an ongoing narrative in a fictional world with several branching subplots. I found I excelled at creating these fictional worlds, and served as the primary lore writer for our forums. While it was a hobby that was meant to pass the time during high school, we took our duties very seriously and required contributors to give in-depth profiles, which would e revised until they suited our requirements before they were allowed to post. It allowed me to develop editing and proofreading skills, and because many of our content came from non-native English speakers, I was also able to work with ESL students on their grammar.
It was because of these early experiences that I decided to get my degree in creative writing. But while I still loved to write, I found a new love in research. Because of this, and because of my love for Japanese studies, I decided to switch my major to interdisciplinary studies. As a result, I was able to combine my passion for writing and my desire to research new information. Since then, I have focused most of my academic research on Japanese cultural studies subjects. I even write the occasional blog post about Japanese culture.
Because I was an older student, I was considered an independent and had to make my way trough my degree while also working a full-time job. Although it was difficult, this taught me a great deal of discipline. I even did well for most of my college career, despite my hardships. I’ve received two president’s awards and two MVP awards as a result of my hard work. I’m proud of my accomplishments, and look forward to a bright future.
